| Once you have become familiar with Telnet,
using any type of telnet
application like the telnet application supplied through the Internet
Tool Kit software ( Tera
Term Pro), or the telnet command which comes with the Windows system,
you can log directly into the cstel.net system to check your email from
anywhere in the world that has an internet connection. (Email-only accounts
DO
NOT apply.)
To use the telnet client which comes with Win95/98, click Run from the Start menu (win3.x , click Run from the File menu), type in telnet, then click Ok. Once you've launch the telnet application, a terminal screen is opened. At this screen is where you will log into the planttel.net system to check your email. Move the mouse to the top of the window to click "Connect", then at the "Connect" drop-down menu, click "Remote System". When the "Connect" pop-up screen appears, as shown below, type in cstel.net as the Host Name, then click connect. If you're using another telnet application, the server you need to connect to is cstel.net |
From the log-in screen, as shown below, type your usernameand password to connect with the system used by cstel.net
After logging in you'll see the Main Menu. At the prompt type PINE as shown below.
At Pine's main menu you'll see a list of commands, go to Folder List, or click "L" on your keyboard which will take you to your mail folders.
At your mail folders, you'll see two default folders, one is INBOX
and the other is NEWMAIL. Arrow over to highlight
your INBOX then click Enter on your
keyboard. Inside your INBOX, you should be
able to read, save, or delete any email message.

| Other commands are listed at the bottom of Pine's main menu screen,
or go to Help for further information on using Pine. To exit Pine , type
"Q". You will then be ask if you really want to quit, type YES
and this will take you back to the Main Menu. Click F10 on your
keyboard to log off cstel.net or type EXIT at the prompt.
*If you're planning to create a homepage to host from the server used by cstel.net, you'll need to know a few commands to create a WWW subdirectory of your account on the server using Telnet which can be found at the Web Page Setup. |
